Name: Janis Holland
Home: Marietta, Georgia
Occupation: Personal trainer, student, mother
Age: 28

Janis is a native of Upstate New York, but has called Marietta, Georgia home since 1993. Those whom have met her may find it quite a shock that this athlete almost became a musician. Beginning at age 9 with the flute, Janis went on to learn and play every instrument in the high school orchestra. She is the only student to receive a perfect score in school history at the New York State Music Conference. To no surprise to those whom have met her, the tuba is what she excelled at! However, after making varsity track as a seventh grader, combined with the overwhelming expenses of music lessons, track became her focus. She went on to set over 10 different team and individual school records ranging from the 400m hurdles, the 800m run, relays and the discus.

Janis works as a personal trainer, a full time mother, wife and a full time student. She also finds the time to run 30 miles a week, posting a personal best of 19:0 in the 5K, 5 weight training sessions a week, weekly yoga and obstacle course work.

Janis' first taste of the WTF came compliments of Al Rosen, who while at a conference in Atlanta, took the time for obstacle course conditioning. Her son was only 4 months old at the time! (Just for the record, her son Xan weighed 11.2 lbs. And was 24" long at birth).

Her first WTF was the 2001 World Challenge in Las Vegas. She put herself up to a huge challenge; she competed just 10 short months after having her first child, a c-section, and 50 pounds to lose. She did exceptionally well, placing 6th out of 17 athletes in her age/height group in the Dual Fitness Optional (combination of Grace & Physique, Obstacle Course and the 3 Fitness Skills). She feels as an athlete, this was her greatest accomplishment. Six months later, Janis competed in St. Petersburg, Florida at the 2002 Gasparilla National Invitational and place 5th Overall in Dual Fitness Optional.

Now that Janis has become a mother, she feels the need to continue to better herself through the WTF is more important then ever. She feels the WTF encourages discipline, determination, and courage, three qualities that are better taught by example then by words.

Janis would like to thank her husband Jon, her son Xan, and all her clients, friends and family for the support they have shown. "Life is full of obstacles, just like the course, and I will conquer them" says Janis.
