Let's face it, the WTF can be scary. Many people are
intimidated by the bruising obstacle course. Others are
nervous about the multi-faceted tasks required in the
fitness skills. And then there are those who suffer
from state fright, cringing at the thought of being in
front of an audience, performing a routine or wearing a
swimsuit.


So how do you overcome those fears?

TRAIN WITH A TEAM!

I personally train with the A-Team Xtreme, and have been
a member since 1998. My affiliation with the team and
its coach, Dr. John Atherton (Coach A) has had a direct
influence on my success as a WTF competitor. Here are
the top three reasons training with the A-Team has
helped me achieve my goals:


1. Great Coaching
Coach A provides an environment where you, as a team
member, learn what it takes to be your very best. He
gives instruction on obstacle course and fitness skill
technique, sets up nutrition, glamour/poise
consultations, and even does awesome photography. Coach
A's experience, wisdom and integrity are invaluable, but
his patience is what's really remarkable. I mean hey,
he's endured my journey from "ho-hum aerobics
instructor" to "professional fitness star"! And believe
me, it has not happened over night. But Coach A has the
commitment to take you where you want to go...as long as
your're willing to work!


2. INCREDIBLE MOTIVATION
As an ex-track athlete, I have trained with several
teams, but none have pushed me to the max like A-Team.
At practice, I am surrounded by other athletes who not
only make it fun to have "friendly" competition, but
also hold me accountable to my goals. My teammates
provide encouragement and share ideas with one another
and we actually become like family. Working out one-on-
one with a personal trainer is a great start to prepare
for a WTF show, but until you experience the team
concept, you will not know your full potential.


3. TOTAL PACKAGING
In order to place well at a Tri-fit competition, you
must be well-rounded. You cannot simply concentrate on
one area and expect to do well overall. Training with a
team allows you to draw from others' strengths. Also,
on the A-Team, we have a "mind, body, spirit" approach,
which allows the valuable lessons you learn as a
competitor to cross over into other areas of your life.

So, please do not let your fears prevent you from
pursuing your dreams...join a team and go for it!
